The art of brewing coffee with the Bialetti

Bialetti

If there's one thing I need every morning, it's my Bialetti espresso maker. Every day I enjoy the rich flavour of a home-made espresso. I can honestly say I haven't found anything better yet. For me, the Bialetti moka express – also known as a percolator – is the best way to brew coffee. To be honest, I couldn't do without it anymore.

The perfect espresso with the Bialetti: how does it work?

For anyone who doesn't know the Bialetti espresso maker yet, let me walk you through the process. This classic device is easy to use and consistently delivers a delicious espresso.

Here's how I do it:

  1. Fill the bottom of the Bialetti with water – up to just below the safety valve.
  2. Add freshly ground coffee to the filter basket. You don't need to tamp it down like you would with an espresso machine; just levelling it off lightly is enough. I usually give it a very gentle tap on the worktop.
  3. Screw the top on. Put the Bialetti on a low heat. Wait until the coffee starts dripping into the upper chamber.
  4. As soon as you hear that familiar gurgling sound, your espresso is ready :)

The moka pot is beautiful. It works well. And on top of that, it brings a piece of Italian tradition into your kitchen. No fuss, just pure, honest coffee.

My coffee, my ritual

Although I like to drink my espresso straight up and without any additions, I often give it a little twist by adding a splash of milk. No sugar, no syrups, just the coffee and a bit of milk for a creamy touch. It stays simple and authentic, exactly the way I like it.

Italian coffee: masterful or overrated?

When I'm making my daily espresso, I do sometimes wonder: are the Italians really the kings of coffee? "Emily in Paris" got me thinking, and even though I enjoy my Italian Bialetti every single day, I'm curious to hear your opinion.

Whatever your favourite method may be, one thing is certain: for me there's nothing better than starting my morning with a freshly brewed espresso from my Bialetti. No expensive machines or complicated recipes, just that classic Italian simplicity that always delivers.

Cheers to your next cup of coffee! Natasja
